New Rules for Overseas Drivers in NSW Effective immediately (from 1 Feb 2026)
Big changes have just come into effect for international drivers in Sydney and NSW.
🛑 “List B” Exemptions Ended: Drivers from List B countries (including South Africa, Poland, South Korea, Taiwan, and others) can no longer automatically swap their licence. 👉 You must now pass the Knowledge Test (DKT) and the Practical Driving Test to get an NSW licence.
⏳ 6-Month Rule for Temporary Visas: If you have lived in NSW for 6 months or more on a temporary visa, you MUST convert to an NSW licence. Driving on your overseas licence after this period is now considered unlicensed driving and carries heavy penalties.
